This morning a whole stack of Brisbane folk converged outside the Liberal Party headquarters to protest against Howard government’s inhumane and shameful policy of mandatory detention of asylum seekers.

A bunch of speakers, including Senator Bartlett and Queensland Greens refugee spokesperson Juanita Wheeler, shared their views of DIMIA’s failings, government policy and the need for a Royal Commission.

Despite the cold and the wet, we proceeded to march to Kangaroo Point to celebrate World Refugee Day. It was great to march alongside families and children and older people. It was a spirited march with enough chanting to attract the attention of passersby. I loved seeing the waves and hearing the honks of those in cars passing by.

After WRD day I went to the Greens State Council meeting to catch up on Greens affairs.

A busy weekend – definitely due for a quiet one.
